February update

Christmas over and the weather and the nights now begin to improve, we can start to look forward to longer hours for photography. So get those cameras out and wrap up warm! its time to check the weather forecast hoping for that cold northerly air coming down the country creating cold clear nights and subsequently crisp clear mornings which are perfect for getting out with your camera.
I head for my local country park on mornings like this and spend a couple of hours photographing the various Gulls and the Wildfowl around the lake to perfect my technique for the coming spring.

Male Shoveler

Black Headed Gull

When undertaking this type of Photography you will need to set your camera to "Shutter priority" and set a shutter speed of around 1/1600 sec and overexpose by about a stop if your subject is against a bright sky. This should be fast enough to freeze any action and give good crisp clear images.
Another place that I love to visit is the British Wildlife Centre, where you are always assured of capturing  some good Images to add to your Portfolio.

Stoat (Mustela erminea)

Its been a busy time the last couple of months having run my first Workshop of 2018 with another already booked in along with my judging duties which I enjoy having started again. Its always a pleasure to visit clubs and societies and see the wealth of talent that they have in their midst. It was particularly nice to visit a fairly local club recently and to see some younger members taking part and entering work.
This year looks to be shaping up to be a busy year photographically with a trip to Finland in May to photograph Brown bears emerging from hibernation, along with running some more Butterfly workshops also in my events programme which are starting to take bookings. For June i have Just finished finalising a trip out to the Farne Islands to photograph the sea bird colonies with Billy Sheil and also have a visit planned to RSPB Minsmere.
if anyone is Interested in Booking a Workshop with me then full details can be found on my web site mickwhitephotography.com or you can email me at mickwhite870@gmail.com  and i will send you further details.
